The Toronto Marlies broke a five game-losing streak and won their first at home on Saturday, shutting down the Hartford Wolf Pack most of the afternoon for a 3-2 win at Coca-Cola Coliseum.
Trevor Moore had a pair of early goals and Carl Grundstrom, who is picking up his scoring touch after not having as strong a Leafs camp as hoped, added the winner. Grundstrom has six points his last three games, adding an assist Saturday, as did big winger Mason Marchment, who came back Friday from a rookie camp injury in early September. Josh Jooris also had his first helper. He has been reunited with Moore, a big part of Toronto’s Calder Cup team last year.
Jeff Glass made 22 saves for the victory as the Marlies (2-4-0-1) picked up three of a possible four points on the weekend.
“We’re not focusing too much on points or results, we just know we need to be more consistent in our structure,” head coach Sheldon Keefe said. “Our special teams were really good for us all through the weekend. So that was a very positive sign, because it gives us a chance to win every game and I thought we played very well defensively today, which took a little heat off our goaltender, which was important because we asked him to go back-to-back today after going into overtime and shootout last night.”
