Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 is set to happen next month in Barcelona, Spain, and everyone is excited to see what South Korean giants Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are showcasing at the world’s largest exhibition for mobile technology.
Samsung mobile chief Koh Dong-jin has already announced during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018 earlier this month that his company is going to reveal its successor to the Galaxy S8 at MWC. Unfortunately, he declined to comment if Samsung is going to take the wraps off of its highly anticipated foldable phone at the same event, according to Korea Herald.
Despite being coy on the foldable phone’s launch, industry sources are still hopeful that the sophisticated technology could show up at MWC. Leaked patents have indicated that this foldable phone could feature a heart rate monitor and could come with a 7.3-inch foldable display panel.
Meanwhile, it would be understandable if Samsung isn’t going to debut its foldable phone at MWC. The South Korean tech giant may after all want its Galaxy S9 to hog the limelight at the exhibition. The new flagship device may come with the same design as its predecessor, but Samsung is expected to include other standout features in order for the device to attract a lot of buyers.
Word has it that the biggest upgrade in the flagship phone may have to do with its photography capabilities. A previous leak hinted at the possibility of the smartphone having a variable aperture that could switch between f/1.5 and f/2/4. There’s also a rumor that the back camera could be capable of shooting at 1,000 frames per second.
LG is also attending MWC this year. Instead of bringing its new G series installment, however, LG will showcase an upgraded version of last year’s V30 phone. Late last week, IBT learned from South Korean media that LG is planning to introduce the “V30+‘α’” with Google Assistant-based AI functions at MWC.
Fans shouldn’t expect the successor to last year’s G6 to debut at next month’s exhibition. LG Vice Chairman Cho Sun-jin announced at CES that the company is no longer following its traditional schedule for its smartphone releases. Besides, the company’s CEO, Jo Seong-jin, reportedly instructed the team developing the G7 to revise the handset from scratch.
After its MWC introduction, the Samsung Galaxy S9 is expected to hit the market sometime in March. On the other hand. there’s still no information about the release of the LG V30+‘α’ smartphone. However, fans should expect that like the original V30, the upgraded model could also hit the U.S. market a month later.
