New York Fashion Week Men's Best Styles: See Pics From Day 1

It's Men's Fashion Week in New York City! While only three days long, Men's NYFW is jam-packed with so many shows that it could easily fill an entire week. Most of the shows are held in Greenwich Village at Industria Superstudio and in Lower Manhattan at the Cadillac House, exactly one mile from one another. Daniela Kirsch will be covering both locations multiple times throughout NYFW and Patch is tagging along for the ride! Take a look below at the Men's Best Spring/Summer 2019 styles captured by Daniela's Lens.

Men's Fashion Week is generally a lot smaller than Women's. For new photographers, it's a litmus test. If you can't make it through Men's without a breakdown, don't even bother with Women's Fashion Week.

10:42 a.m.

I start the day at New York Men's Day with four presentations in one location. They greet everyone with popcorn with truffles and parmesan. I take two boxes.

10:52 a.m.

Designer David Hart is back to the seventies at New York Men's Day.

11:42 a.m.

Next stop Alessandro Trincone SS19 runway show at Cadillac House. Photographers can get three levels of access to a show. Backstage, riser and front row. Backstage is what it sounds like: shooting the models before the show starts. Riser photographers take photos of models walking down the runway and front row photographers shoot the celebrities sitting in the front row before and during the show. I'm a front row shooter.

11:52 a.m.

Model Bryce Alakai @brycealakai is not on the runway today but watching the show.

12:13 p.m.

Eric Rutherford @mr.rutherford is here of course. I will see him at every show this week. Always in the front row, of course.

12:15 p.m.

My friend and creative director Andrew Werner @fleurdpins. He designs the iconic Fleur'd accessories.

12:16 p.m.

"Is that Daftpunk?" someone asks me.

"I don't think so. If this would be Daftpunk, there would be 54 photographers here for sure." I say.

12:22 p.m.

Alessandro Trincone SS19 Runway.

"He put all these bulky guys into baby clothes!" someone says.

12:23 p.m.

Alessandro Trincone SS19 Runway.

12:32 p.m.

The scene outside of the show.

1:09 p.m.

I run over to Ricardo Seco's Men's Presentation in a nearby store. He has lunch for us! A smart way to get every photographers love. A well-fed photographer takes a lot better photos than a hungry grumpy one.

Ricardo Seco

1:23 p.m.

Thank you, Ricardo!

2:08 p.m.

Back to Greenwich Village and the DYNE SS19 Men's Presentation. It's a green, colorful jungle.

2:56 p.m.

I'm at Carlos Campos SS19 runway show and Andy Hilfiger is here, too.

"Are you shooting now for Women's Wear Daily?" he asks me because my partner Steve Eichner used to work for them.

"Not yet!"

2:57 p.m.

Steven Kolb @stevenkolb, president of the CFDA, and Douglas Hand @handofthelaw, fashion law professor.

3:11 p.m.

Fern Mallis @fernmallis, creator of New York Fashion Week.

"Do you know Fern?" says someone introducing me to her.

"Of course I know Fern!" If you are working any kind of job in fashion in New York City, you know Fern!

3:18 p.m.

The Atmosphere at the show.

3:27 p.m.

Designer Carlos Campos

3:35 p.m.

I run all the way back downtown to NYMD.

4:31 p.m.

Sundae School.

4:34 p.m.

Descendant of Thieves

5:15 p.m.

And back to Greenwich Village.

5:48 p.m.

Backstage at Willy Chavarria Runway Show.

5:49 p.m.

Backstage at Willy Chavarria Runway Show.

6:00 p.m.

The models.

6:14 p.m.

I look for an outlet to charge my phone and see a European charger already plugged in.

"Are you from Europe?" I ask the guy.

"Yes! I'm from Denmark!"

We start talking, and he tells me that he is the brand manager for Hummel sportswear and that they are doing a cooperation with Willy Chavarria today. Half of the show will show Hummel soccer clothing, and the other half is Willy Chavarria.

6:39 p.m.

The show production manager explains the runway to the models. He starts with a pep talk. "The first part of the show is all about soccer players. Soccer is a sport that brings people together, and it's a sport that brings immigrants like us together. That's very important to Willy. I want you all to be positive and happy while walking the runway!"

6:48 p.m.

Willy Chavarria with @rkurtosenlund

6:50 p.m.

Olympian Alex Shibutani and Willy Chavarria.

6:52 p.m.

"What are you doing?" I ask.

"What are YOU doing?" the painter asks.

"Good point."

7:06 p.m.

Elizabeth Eaton Rosenthal "The Green Lady".

7:08 p.m.

The first part of the Willy Chavarria show with soccer players.

7:09 p.m.

Aurora James and Browne Andrews.

7:13 p.m.

Kelly Oubre Jr. and Alex Shibutani.

7:32 p.m.

The Willy Chavarria Runway Show.

7:42 p.m.

The next show starts in 20 minutes. I start running. One mile from Industria to Cadillac House. I don't even bother packing up my camera.

Rapper Thutmose already made it here. And he managed to change his outfit, too. That's what makes a front row pro!

7:52 p.m.

The Landlord SS19 Runway Show.

"Hi! Can you stand up for a photo?" I ask Darrelle Revis @darrellerevis

"No."

8:05 p.m.

Kelly Oubre Jr. and girlfriend.

8:25 p.m.

The scene at the Landlord SS19 Runway Show.
