Morocco will replace Kenya as hosts of the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN), a CAF emergency committee unanimously decided.

Kenya had their rights to host the competition withdrawn due to a lack of preparation. The Kenyan Federation had planned to use four stadiums, but only two were ready, Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi and Kasarani Stadium in Kasarani.

The decision was made at an emergency committee meeting in Lagos in Nigeria.

Having Morocco as hosts benefits North African rivals Egypt. The Egyptians were knocked out by the Moroccans during the qualifiers, but they will now get an opportunity to play in the competition, which kicks off on January 12 and comes to an end on February 4.

The competition will be played in four cities – Marrakech, Casablanca, Tangier and Agadir.

Bafana Bafana were knocked out of the qualifiers and will not participate in the 16-team competition.

Qualified teams

Morocco, Cameroon, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Sudan, Uganda, Egypt, Libya, Angola, Namibia, Zambia, Guinea, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast and Nigeria.
