Mile Jedinak's role in provoking a late scuffle sealed a stirring match-winning performance for Championship side Aston Villa.
Jedinak played a key role in having Birmingham midfielder Cheikh N'Doye sent off late in the match as Villa defeated their bitter rivals 2-0.
After being pushed to the ground by N’Doye, Jedinak dragged him to the ground before kicking out.
Villa skipper John Terry came to Jedinak's aid before he was put in a headlock, resulting in N'Doye being sent off.
Earlier, Jedinak was rewarded with a start over the in-form Birkir Bjarnason in what was a big gamble by Villa boss Steve Bruce.
Jedinak was the only change for Villa, who were searching for their seventh-straight league win - what would be their best streak in 28 years.
After a scoreless first half, goals to Albert Adomah and Conor Hourihane secured the 2-0 win for Villa over bitter arch-rivals Birmingham City.
It was an emotional victory for Bruce, whose father passed away during the week and mother is in hospital.
However, it was the briliiant match-long effort by Jedinak that drew praise from fans.

In addition to winning two of his three attempted tackles and making seven effective clearances, Jedinak won 16 duels - more than any other player on the field.
Providing the spark to have Ndoye sent off in the game's final minutes put the cherry on top on Jedinak's outing.
The win moves Villa into the promotion frame after jumping into second on the ladder, and with Jedinak firing on all cylinders, the pragmatism will also spread into the Australian set-up, especially after star midfielder Aaron Mooy picked up a knee injury in Huddersfield's Premier League win over Bournemouth.
If Villa do earn promotion to the top flight, Jedinak will be 34 - not that age would slow him down.
