Even before the love teams of Kim Chiu-Xian Lim, Coco Martin-Julia Montes, Kathryn Bernardo-Daniel Padilla, Marian Rivera-Dingdong Dantes and John Lloyd Cruz-Bea Alonzo dominated our cinemas and TV screens, Nora Aunor and Tirso Cruz III (Guy and Pip) have been making fans swoon and sigh to their songs and romantic movies.
Decades after the Guy and Pip love team was born, and even if both went their separate ways as private persons, the magic is still there.
Fans still swear their undying devotion to the love team, and are willing to go anywhere just to see their idols on screen again.
This, the entertainment press saw for themselves at the screening of the tandem’s comeback project, Studio5's telesine "When I Fall in Love," where they play the roles of old couple Fely and Armando.
Unlike their ‘70s movies, which capitalized on their youth and innocence, “When I Fall in Love” sees Guy and Pip playing a middle-aged couple with grown-up children and a few grandchildren.
"Marami ng nangyari sa buhay namin, lalo na sa akin. Kumbaga sa nobela, closed na iyon. Panibagong nobela naman iyon ngayon. So mas mature na kami pareho. May mga kaniya-kaniya na kaming pamilya. Basta ang maganda doon nakapagbigay kami ng kasiyahan sa mga tagahanga namin noon na hanggang ngayon ay andiyan pa rin," Nora said in an interview at the press screening of "When I Fall in Love" on Wednesday, January 29 at Ali Mall.
Speaking of change, has she seen any difference between the Tirso of their younger years and the happily-married man that he is today?
"Mas seryoso siya ngayon. Ako naman kasi, hindi ganoon kaseryoso kahit noon. Basta sa amin, pagdating sa trabaho, trabaho. Pero mas iba ngayon, kumpara noon."
Nora admitted their projects were more intense back then because they were younger.
"Iba iyon (Bilangin ang Bituin sa Langit, their 1989 movie which won Nora and Tirso Best Actress and Best Actor awards ) kaysa sa ngayon. Bata-bata pa kami noon. Mas intense yung dati. Maayos naman ang aming trabaho ngayon. Kapag wala sa trabaho, nagbibiruan."
Nora is currently shooting the films "Dementia” and “Padre de Pamilya," where she stars with Coco Martin.
"Napakagaling ni Coco, maalalahanin. Sa mga nakasama ko, huwag sanang magtatampo, pero iba talaga si Coco. Nagpapaluto pa siya sa lola niya ng food para madala sa set. Napakagaan sa set. Parang hindi mo nararamdaman ang pagod," she said.
"When I Fall in Love" will air on TV5 on Tuesday, February 11.
