During another tense round of questioning from the police, Daz confessed that he accidentally killed someone in 2009 during his time with the army. The two incidents now seem to be connected, as the username of the person who's been exchanging online messages with Amelia contains a subtle reference to Daz's devastating mistake.Advertisement - Continue Reading Below
In the closing moments of Tuesday's episode, a young woman called Beth was seen taking care of Amelia, who's still alive and well. But who is Beth and how does she link to Daz's past?
Here, Mark Jordon – who plays Daz – reveals his thoughts on the latest twist to the ongoing story.
What's going through Daz's mind now that he's connected his past to Amelia's disappearance?
"I think it's the last thing Daz expected. He suffered while he was in the army, which is one of the main reasons why he returned as such a jerk and a mean-spirited person when we first met him. But there is no way he would have expected those past events to cross paths with anything to do with his family.
"Now after learning that Amelia is his daughter, Daz is mortified that something he has done in the past has caused such problems. The reality of the situation could lead to disaster or something terrible happening to Amelia, so he's very concerned."
How has being accused of abducting Amelia affected Daz?
"Daz has pleaded his innocence while being accused, but his past behaviours have proved him as unreliable, so people think he is inventing stories again or is trying to get out of the situation.
"All eyes are on Daz, so no matter how much he tries to explain that it has nothing to do with him, the latest clues are leading to the exact period of time where the incident in the army happened. So it can only therefore suggest that Daz is involved with Amelia's abduction.
"Daz is concerned to be fighting this alone. He is probably unable to help save Amelia or lead to any way of her being brought home again as he doesn't know who this kidnapper is, he just knows that she is connected to his past.
"Because of his previous behaviour, no-one believes him and he's at a loss and about to break down. He is fraught and tense and it's causing so many problems everywhere. I'm not sure he is going to be able to cope."
Kerry is having doubts about Daz now too, isn't she?
"Well, after bringing Daz back from the homeless situation and seeing how well he has fitted into the community – and how well the brothers have got on – Kerry has tried desperately to not believe that Daz is involved. But her main concern is Dan and he is adamant that Daz is involved, so she is now starting to get very suspicious too.
"Without support from Kerry or Bernice, Daz will be in a real pickle. If no-one will believe him or back him up, I don't know how he is going to cope."
Can you tell us more about how Daz killed someone when he was in the army?
"It was a training exercise. Daz was very boisterous and fought against all of the powerful higher ranking officers. He was a little too anarchic, so he went out the night before and had a load to drink and it probably caused his judgement to be off. Accidentally, on a live fire training exercise, a member of his squad got shot and it transpires that it was Daz's bullet.
"Thankfully Daz was cleared from the incident, but it's haunted him ever since and it's probably one of the most major reasons that he has spiralled out of control. It's why he has become the mess that he is. It's haunted him forever, but he fought against it, instead of trying to resolve it.Advertisement - Continue Reading Below Advertisement - Continue Reading Below
"Daz was a rebel and his instinct was to go out and fight against the world, subliminally trying to hurt himself while doing so. It's led to the disastrous situation he was in while on the streets, owing people money and being chased by people.
"It was only when Daz was brought back into the Spencer family that he knew he had to address things, but he has never spoken about this to anyone through fear he will be judged. But he has no way to hide it now. He has to address it if he wants to help Amelia."
How will this affect Daz's relationship with Bernice?
"She's horrified. She has been the most brilliant girlfriend to him. Bernice has assisted Daz through the knowledge of Amelia being his daughter and the terrible ripples that has caused between his brother and himself, but this is just too much for her to take on board.
"Bernice is very concerned about his lies and that on paper, he murdered someone, even though that's not quite how it was. To hear words like that, it has made her very apprehensive about spending time with Daz."
Do you think Daz can come back from this?
"I hope so, but I think that the only way Daz can heal the damage that has been done is to find Amelia. He's on a mission at the moment to do everything in his power to help, seeing as the police don't believe him, his family don't believe him and neither does his girlfriend.Advertisement - Continue Reading Below
"And the village is now starting to hear all of this and people are believing that Daz not only abducted Amelia but maybe even killed her."
Is Daz feeling isolated?
"He is absolutely desperate to prove his worth and desperate to get his girl back. It's his focus that Amelia is safe and alive, because his previous life has caused this pain. He's at a loss over what to do, so his only focus is to work out how to find Amelia and who has taken her."
