Heads up, artists and augmented reality enthusiasts: Snapchat is about to give you a serious incentive to play around with its Lens Studio tool.
Launched in December, the tool lets anyone create AR lenses for the app. As Mashable first reported and confirmed by PCMag, Snapchat is now planning to include some user-created lenses in the app's filter carousel, beginning later this month.
"The update will display artists' work in the app's main screen, only a couple of swipes away from the puppy filter and the dancing hot dog," Mashable said.
Selected lenses will show the creator's name for all Snapchat users to potentially see. That could mean a whole lot of eyeballs on your name and work. Competition for these spots will be fierce, however: "inclusion will be limited at first, with only a few artists featured periodically," according to Mashable.
Starting later this month, users who submit a lens via Lens Studio will see an option to have their creation promoted in Snapchat's carousel. When someone encounters a user-created lens in the carousel, they'll see an "i" icon, which they can tap for additional information about it.

Since the launch of Lens Studio, users have already created more than 30,000 lenses, which have been viewed more than one billion times. The tool includes templates and tutorials to help you get started.
Meanwhile, word has it Snap is working on a new pair of connected sunglasses. Cheddar earlier this month reported that Snap aims to "launch a second version of its Spectacles glasses this year followed by a more ambitious third version equipped with two cameras in 2019."
