Gavern: Anthony Joshua Hits Harder, Beats Deontay Wilder

By Michael Doss

The world awaits for world champions Deontay Wilder (39-0, 38KOs) and Anthony Joshua (20-0, 20KOs) to eventually make plans for a mega heavyweight fight in the future.  That showdown has become boxing’s “it” fight, much like Mayweather-Pacquiao and Canelo-GGG.

Joshua and Wilder have common opponents on their unbeaten records, and of those opponents is heavyweight trial horse Jason Gavern.

Gavern (27-21-4, 12KOs) has fought a who’s who list of top heavyweights for over a decade.  He also has a win over future hall of famer James Toney.

The Orlando Florida native is proud of being able to go in and stand toe to toe with some of the biggest and baddest in boxing.

“Humbly I can say I fought both Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder,"  Gavern told ATG Radio

As the boxing world now weighs in their views and predictions on who is better and who would win a fight between Joshua and Wilder more than any other anticipated fight.  Who would know better than the man who was dropped a total of six times and stopped by both current champions.

“Anthony Joshua has taken the heavyweight division by storm.  That guy is a freak.  He’s an amazing fighter.  Wilder too is more so learning on the job," Gavern said.

“I think right now from the years we’ve watched these guys rise, a fight between these two right is going to be massive. Then they’re taking this fight over in the UK.  You have the 100,000 seat arena over there, Wembley Stadium.  They can sell that thing out two times over there.

“I think it would be one of the best heavyweight fights in the past decade.  I would fly to that fight to watch it myself.  That would be a tremendous fight.'

Planning on sitting ringside for a fight that could most likely break gate-records if taken place at Wembley Stadium, Gavern gives his prediction on who would win the massive encounter.

“I’m going to go with Joshua.  In his fight with Klitschko, Joshua got off the canvas and he fought his heart out and got the win," Gavern said.

“Deontay has been banged around in a few fights.  He’s had a couple difficult fights.  His last fight with Stiverne was crazy but that was a good fight for him.

“I think ultimately Joshua would win but both these guys are big huge heavyweights.  This fight is not going 12 rounds.  Somebody is getting knocked out."

When asked the question on who hits harder between the two heavyweights, Gavern stated.

“I think Joshua hits harder.  I think a big guy like him shouldn’t move as well as he does.  He moves so fast, especially on the inside.  He threw a tripe hook on the inside with me and I didn’t even know where it’s coming from.  It’s crazy how fast his punches are."
