Call The Midwife\'s Helen George Hits Back At Body Shamer

Call The Midwife’s Helen George was forced to take on a body shamer.

The actress’ character Trixie Franklin made her exit on Sunday night’s show due to her alcoholism storyline while in real life she went off to have a baby.

The Twitter user attacked the actress, who only gave birth in October, by calling her ‘massive’ and saying she ‘needs to be put on a diet.’

Absolutely disgusting words, but thankfully rather than take it to heart Helen saw it as an opportunity to make a very well made point about body shamers, and her post has at the time of writing garnered 16.5k likes.

She wrote: ‘Sorry if my chins offended you, I chose to feed my baby healthily and not starve myself in a selfish act to look good on TV. Would you say this to a pregnant lady’s face? You should look on pregnant ladies’ multiple chins with love, they are busy making the future x.’

One ran replied that she shouldn’t waste her time on the troll, to which Helen responded with a heartbreaking comment that it’s not the first time she’s heard it.

‘Oh I know lovely, but so many comments like that come my way, so boring. It’s about a feeling toward pregnant women, that we should all stay skinny,’ she said.

Viewers were left devastated on Sunday as her character bowed out from the show.

Trixie first spoke up about her alcohol addiction back in 2015, when she sought help from the Samaritans and began attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

In the most recent episode, after a series of personal struggles, including splitting from her boyfriend, Trixie again struggled to cope and was unable to hide her problem.

Fans’ worst fears were confirmed when Sister Julienne said:  ‘I’m granting you a leave of absence for six months.’

But it was all for a good reason really, as Helen left the show to give birth to this little beauty.

Helen recently explained the decision to hide her pregnancy on the show rather than make Trixie pregnant too: ‘I was pregnant in the series, so you just kind of see me walk across the screen sometimes with odd fashions, or I’d sit down a lot, or I’m wearing lots of capes.

‘It wasn’t a correct storyline to choose for the character, as well. It wasn’t right for Trixie to be pregnant. So we just did our best to cover it up.’
