We know what you're thinking: Valentine's Day is a manufactured day created to pressure you into buying things for your other half that he doesn't actually want. Whilst you might be half right, there's nothing wrong with a little gesture that he'll actually appreciate - and who could turn down a milkshake anyway?Advertisement - Continue Reading Below
1. Make breakfast in bed
There is no greater pleasure than waking up to bacon and heart-shaped eggs in bed, and anyone who tells you differently is lying. Pick up some shaped rings for your eggs here.
2. Create a DIY book of tokens
Whether they involve begrudgingly giving him a foot rub or taking a shower together, hand made tokens for him to use as he pleases, whenever he pleases. Guaranteed brownie points.
3. Order his favourite takeaway unexpectedly
Even if you've agreed not to celebrate the dreaded V-day, no one's gonna turn down a sweet and sour chicken with egg fried rice and pork balls when they get home, are they?
4. Take photos for you only
Not everything needs to go on Facebook. Take stupid/compromising/really very ugly selfies for your eyes only to look back on and laugh at.
5. Ask to play Fifa with him
We know, we know. It's a tough ask but it's surprising how much he'll actually appreciate you taking an interest in his video games - even if you do accidentally score an own goal and get a player sent off.
6. Gift him a map point that's important to you both
Mapiful allows you to create your very own map of anywhere in the world - your first kiss destination, where you went on honeymoon or your favourite cafe location. It can be as big or small as you desire and makes for a perfect gesture.
7. Leave little notes amongst his things
As a rule of thumb, a hand written note shoved between his laptop before he leaves for work is a really romantic and lovely thing to do. Unless it says 'you suck in bed', in which case you should probably rethink. WRITE SOMETHING NICE.
8. Give him a vinyl record of 'your song'
Whilst all those indie kids sound like tossers when they go on about how it sounds "different" on vinyl, they kind of have a point. Even if 'your song' is a Taylor Swift record, buy it and play it on repeat.
9. Pamper him
It might not be often, but men love a good pampering session too. Either freshen up his routine with a new wash bag or some goodies, or alternatively offer to give him a foot rub or head massage.
10. Give him free reign with the Netflix account
So yeah you might want to watch Gossip Girl from the beginning (again), but make the ultimate sacrifice and offer up the next series choice to him.
11. Take him on a milkshake date
Seriously though, if there's anything in this world better than a milkshake date, we don't know what it is. Five Guys do gift cards and have over ONE THOUSAND different milkshake combinations, so go there and wait for
all the boys your boy to come to your yard.
12. Bake something delicious
13. Make him a card
Make him something special out of old photographs, magazine cuttings and all things crafty. Use your imagination! Head to Pinterest for inspo, or failing that, fancy websites can always meet in the middle between professional and DIY.
14. Give him your favourite fragrance
As in, your favourite fragrance of his - unless you're into him wearing your perfume. In which case, that too. Scent is a sense not to be underestimated people, so head to The Perfume Shop for their V-Day deals.
15. Reccomend a really great book
Give him one of your classics or recommend a book you really enjoyed and think he would too. The great thing about reading is that you're putting your mind into someone else's hands, and this way you can tell him exactly which hands to put his into.
16. Give him a jar of his favourite sweets
Personalise a jar, fill it with sherbet dip dabs or whatever his vice happens to be and present it to him with a big ribbon. Works a treat.
17. Let him have full control of your next proper date night
Whilst this might mean you end up at that indoor water park he's been banging on about for months or ay Byron Burger despite the fact you're a vegetarian, he'll appreciate being in full control of your evening plans.
Whilst it's a ridiculously cliche present and probably isn't out of the norm, but surely EVERYONE is a fan of receiving chocolate any time of year, right? Whether it's a fancy Lindt box or your bog standard Dairy Milk (not that we're complaining), chocolate is always a good idea.
19. Compliment him
You might thing he looks fit all the time, but you probably haven't told him in a while. Compliment that tie with that shirt, congratulate him on wearing matching socks or just remind him how much you like his bed hair. You know the drill.
Alternatively? Turn up at his house with 15 fluffy teddies, a microphone and the lyrics to a John Legend song. If you're into that.
